1,000 People Oppose Government's Plan to Rezone Repulse Bay
Over 1,000 representations were received by the Town Planning Board objecting to the rezoning of the public Seaview Building and adjacent open space, and to sell these sites to a private developer.
Fix the Traffic Problems on Beach Road
In addition, residents called for Beach Road to be fixed - specifically, the problems caused by tourist coaches blocking the road and keeping their engines running while their passengers visit the temple, statue and beach.
Rezoning Will Make the Situation Worse
Beach Road needs to be fixed but NOT by rezoning and sale of public facilities! The planned hotel will draw more traffic, while converting the Seaview Building and open space into a commercial development will - together with the (still empty) redevelopment of the Lido - create a continuous wall and turn Beach Road into an unpleasant canyon.
Comprehensive Plan Needed - Proposal Summary
1. Renovate and properly manage the Seaview Building for the benefit of the public
2. Fix and enhance the open space adjacent to the Seaview Building
3. Resolve issues with the Lido redevelopment and open the building
4. Manage coach traffic with traffic calming and coach drop off area
5. Install signalled pedestrian crossings and improve footpaths
